Posco Week Events Successful at Shanghai Expo

Posco Week special events dedicated to the promotion of the steelmaker attracted more than 25,000 people to its booth daily, helping the South Korea Joint Industrial Pavilion become a popular site at the Shanghai Expo.

Posco says that the most sought-after program among Chinese visitors was the hands-on performing arts program for culturally less-privileged Chinese children from Beijing and Longjing’s suburban areas.

“It was a great opportunity to feel how advanced Korean companies are,” said a teacher who joined the programs with his students. “Posco doesn’t seem to be a foreign company to me. It was considerate and kind enough to encourage rural kids in China through such wonderful events.”

Posco says it will continue to provide help for the school kids who participated in the events. It gave 50 desktop computers and photocopiers for children in Longjing, while paying for heating at the Elementary School near Beijing during winter.

Posco’s eco-friendly donation program, called “Hope Message Tree,” also attracted attention from Chinese people. Designed to promote “Green City, Green Life,” the main theme of the South Korea Joint Industrial Pavilion and Posco’s vision for green growth, Hope Message Tree relates Posco’s outreach programs in China to visitors’ participation in it.

Posco explained that once a visitor attaches a message of hope to the tree-shaped structure, the “hope gauge” at the center of it moves upward. Whenever the gauge passes through a certain level, Posco will launch a new outreach program in China. More than 20,000 visitors posted a message on the structure, which will lead the company and its 12 Chinese units to plant about 8000 trees all around China in the near future.
