Posco-Vietnam Nears Completion of Cold-Rolling Plant
05/29/2009 - Posco-Vietnam is in the final stage of construction of a cold-rolling plant near Ho Chi Minh City in southern Vietnam.
Posco-Vietnam is in the final stage of completion in the construction of a cold-rolling plant in the Phu My Industrial Complex near Ho Chi Minh City in southern Vietnam.
Posco-Vietnam broke ground on the new cold-rolling plant in August 2007. Initially scheduled to be completed by this September 30, the new mill will be capable of producing 1.2 million tons of steel a year, and will have an annual output of 700,000 tons/year of cold-rolled steel products and 500,000 tons/year of cold-rolled-full hard steel products.
The new plant’s construction is 99% complete, and marking staff in Ho Chi Minh City have already finished moving in. The cold-rolling plant will test a cold run next month and a hot run on August 1. As the startup progresses, Posco-Vietnam has been paying close attention to taking care of its employees’ health, as waterborne diseases are on the rise due to the rainy season that is currently underway in the southern part of Vietnam. As employees give up their holidays and focus on finishing their work on the plant, the company has received the necessary medicine from its headquarters in Korea.
Posco will use the new cold-rolling plant in Vietnam as the base from which it will secure positions in the advanced steel market in the South Asian region as well as in Vietnam, where resources are plentiful and demand for steel has been rapidly rising.
Posco recently completed steel processing plants in India, Thailand, and Japan. As the construction of cold-rolling plants in Vietnam and Mexico CGL is also near completion, Posco will continue expanding its global steelmaking presence.
