Posco TRIZ University to Open

Posco plans to open Posco TRIZ University on February 1 to enhance creative problem-solving abilities of employees, and the company plans to link the education with improvement in management results.

The curriculum of Posco TRIZ University will be modeled after examples from advanced institutes, according to Posco, and be opened first to engineers and R&D staffs. It will be available to leaders and on-site employees to increase results by enhancing creative capabilities through TRIZ (Teoriya Resheniya Izobretatelskih Zadach, which means “theory to creatively solve problems” in Russian).

A TRIZ certificate system will be operated in cooperation with an external specialized institution, and Posco will provide benefits to employees who acquire this certification.

Since 2003, the TRIZ method has been used to solve about 100 Six Sigma tasks at Posco, and the company claims the method has contributed greatly to results such as 107 patents acquired. TRIZ education has also been conducted since 2007 on 1229 employees to improve problem-solving abilities; of those, 36 internationally certified specialists have been focusing on spreading TRIZ to employees.
