Posco to Establish Cold-Rolled Stainless Steel Plant in Vietnam
12/21/2010 - Posco recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for a cold-rolled stainless steel plant in Vietnam’s Nhon Trach Industrial Complex. Posco VST expects to install a 100,000-tonne scale rolling mill and 200,000-tonne scale annealing equipment in the first phase by February 2012.
Posco recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for a cold-rolled stainless steel (STS) plant in Vietnam’s Nhon Trach Industrial Complex.
Last October, Posco acquired a Vietnam cold-rolled STS plant with annual capacity of 30,000 tonnes and renamed it Posco VST. The company is producing an annual 85,000 tonnes of cold-rolled STS products through facility expansions this year.
Posco VST expects to install a 100,000-tonne scale rolling mill and 200,000-tonne scale annealing equipment in the first phase by February 2012, preparing rolling capacity of 185,000 tonnes. This will be combined with 50,000 tonnes of full hard from Pohang Steelworks to produce and sell 235,000 tonnes of cold-rolled stainless steel sheets annually starting in 2012.
Pohang Steelworks will provide the 100,000 tonnes of hot-rolled stainless steel sheets and 50,000 tonnes of full hard for Posco VST.
With the rolling mill planned to be installed in 2014 for completion of the construction, Posco VST will be able to produce 285,000 tonnes annually, becoming the largest cold-rolled STS product provider in the Southeast Asia region, according to Posco.
Current demand for cold-rolled STS products in the Southeast Asia market is approximately 660,000 tonnes, of which 310,000 tonnes are produced domestically and the remaining amount imported.
