Posco Strengthens Partnership with Kumba

Employees of the South African iron ore company Kumba, a major purchaser of sized ore, recently visited the Pohang and Gwangyang Works to enhance mutual understanding between the two companies.

The event was planned by the companies to gain a better understanding of each other’s fuel- and material-related process systems. Four Kumba employees—managers in charge of Korean and Japanese markets, plus those in charge of its South African Iron ore mine—joined the event.

The four learned about Posco’s production and load/unload processes at the Gwangyang Works and saw how Posco purchases and uses materials. At the Pohang Works, they learned how fuel is transported and toured the load/unload facilities.

Posco says its partnership with Kumba is important because it uses a steady supply of sized ore to fill the deficiency of sintered ore. Kumba supplies 1.5 million tonnes of sized ores to Posco every year.

The two companies plan to continue to enhance their partnership through various exchange programs. A group of Posco employees is scheduled to visit Kumba in November.
