Posco recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Google at the Posco Center for the exchange of core capabilities to help establish a new management model based on global operation and creative cooperation.
With the agreement, Posco is planning to implement POSPIA 3.0, a future-oriented management system, by utilizing Google’s advanced IT and solutions in all areas such as facilities, distribution, environment and energy, and safety.
Google also plans to supply its established solutions for communication and cooperation to Posco, and develop and provide other new IT services for the future.
The two companies will also exchange knowledge on various matters related to the innovative work environment such as collaboration, work hour management, communication methods, utilization of in-house communities, and reduced meeting hours. For this, workshops will be held more than twice annually, and an exchange program for employees between the two companies will be organized and promoted on a department level for a certain period of time.
Participants in the signing ceremony included Posco Senior Executive Vice President Han-yong Park, Google’s Asia-Pacific and Japan President Daniel Alegre, Posco ICT’s President Nam-seok Huh, Google Korea CEO Dong-hoon Yeom, and others.
Google’s Chairman Eric Schmidt visited Korea on November 8, and Chairman Chung proposed working in cooperation with Google to resolve Posco’s mid- and long-term strategic tasks. Chung said he realized that the introduction of Google’s technologies and innovative corporate culture to Posco could fundamentally overhaul the company and that Google could expand its business further into the B2B market and East Asia.
In addition, Posco ICT—an IT and engineering subsidiary of Posco—signed an MOU with Google for business cooperation to provide various IT services in the future. Posco ICT is planning to optimize the Google-owned solutions for collaboration and communication, apply them to Posco, and supply services such as relevant consulting service and system implementation. Based on this, Posco ICT plans to start business for other companies in the distribution, logistics, and manufacture sectors.
