Posco Publishes 2010 Carbon Report

Posco has published its Carbon Report 2010, marking the second year of the carbon report’s publication.

This year, Posco’s Carbon Report links to the company’s project visions and strategies such as the Green Steel, Green Business, Green Life, Green Partnership, etc., supplemented by explanations on the carbon management system. The report also notes the climate change response activities implemented by Posco Specialty Steel, Posco Power, Posco C&C, Posco CHEMTHCH, SNNC, Posco AST, and POSTECH.

The report was self-produced by Posco and POSRI. Greenhouse gas emissions and the overall report were verified by Samil Accounting Corp.

With concern over the issue of global warming growing worldwide, efforts to reduce carbon emissions have become a common social responsibility for all companies. Companies’ ability to react swiftly to the climate changes is also becoming an important criterion for corporate value evaluation.

Posco recognizes environmental management as a fundamental element for sustainable growth and value creation, and is operating a systematic environmental management organization to respond to climate changes and natural resource depletion. A carbon emission reduction system is also in place at the Posco family level, including such greenhouse gas reduction activities as developing innovative technologies to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

With these efforts, Posco was the only steel company worldwide to be selected as a leading company in the Carbon Disclosure Leadership and Reduction Performance Leadership categories of the Carbon Disclosure Project which was carried out on the world`s top 500 companies in 2010.

Posco’s Carbon Report 2010 can be downloaded in Korean from the Posco website and hard copies are available upon request. The company said the English version would be available in May.
