POSCO Partners With ExxonMobil to Develop LNG Carriers
10/08/2020 - South Korean steelmaker POSCO has joined forces with oil and gas giant ExxonMobil to explore the use of high-manganese steel grades in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry, reports the Korea Herald newspaper.
According to the newspaper, the POSCO Research Institute will collaborate with ExxonMobil’s Research and Engineering and Upstream Research institutes on developing LNG carriers and LNG-fueled vessels that use high-manganese steels.
“This cooperation and commitment to long-term, strategic technology development combines ExxonMobil’s expertise in metallurgy application with POSCO’s expertise in world-class, high-quality steel manufacturing,” ExxonMobile Upstream Research president Tristan Aspray told the Herald.
