Posco recently launched a comprehensive e-Learning system that employees of affiliates and overseas subsidiaries can access for learning.
Posco notes that it has operated various online courses through e-Campus but, especially in the case of overseas subsidiaries, there was a large demand for a specialized education management system and e-Learning contents for local employees.
The system offers a customized e-Learning environment that allows affiliates to operate necessary menus and to research educational demand at any time and directly open a course. A self-directed education system was also linked to the PSC (Personal Score Card), allowing planning by each user as well.
Employees of affiliates can access the e-Learning system through each company’s intranet without the need for a separate ID and password.
Posco also started operation this past January of a multi-language educational control system developed for overseas recruits. A global e-Learning website was opened to provide contents on basic values such as Posco Way, QSS, and Korean education. It also provides necessary courses for each overseas subsidiary.
Posco says it is making efforts to establish infrastructure including separate servers and CDN (Contents Delivery Network) service for easier learning. Currently, 68 courses on Chinese, English, and others are in operation.
In addition, the company started a u-Learning service on April 19 to help employees learn by using smartphones. Creative management and leadership are being offered in the first phase to officers and managers who have been issued with Blackberry phones. The company has plans for other IT initiatives in the future.
