Posco Invites Volunteers to Join Hope-Sharing Activities

Posco, together with the international housing NGO Habitat Korea, is currently in search of 100 new members of BEYOND, the company’s collegiate volunteer group. Membership is open to all college students including those on a leave of absence.

The new members of BEYOND will have a launching ceremony on June 30, and be given chances to join various volunteer programs of Habitat, such as Dream Project, Beyond Project, and Global Village Program, for one year.

In May 2011, they will be gathered with senior BEYOND members for the annual “BEYOND Reunion Day” events, through which they will all share what they have learned through the hope-sharing activities.

Started in 2007, BEYOND aims to go beyond national borders to spread hope all over the world, according to Posco. Earlier this year, members built homes in Bandung, Indonesia, for eight families that were victims of an earthquake that devastated the area in September 2009. They also visited a middle school to present a scholarship and stage performance.

Posco says those interested in the project should apply through the webpage of Habitat Korea (www.habitat.or.kr) by May 30.

The steelmaker also recently launched the Posco Global Hope-Sharing Young Corps, a youth volunteer group composed of college students with professional specialties and knowledge who want to help with overseas outreach programs.

Since last September, the group has been teaching computer skills and the Korean language along with other professional skills for needy families in Vietnam, with the help of computers and textbooks provided by Posco.
