Posco Increases Work Efficiency, Job Satisfaction with Smart Work Environment

Posco has determined that on-site work efficiency and job satisfaction significantly increased in both the Pohang Steelworks and Gwangyang Steelworks one year after implementing an environment for Smart Work.

To encourage all executives and employees to work more creatively through better communication and collaboration, Posco last year introduced a Smart Work environment under which employees on the field could process their work using mobile devices such as smartphones. The company says that the Smart Work environment is especially successful in the steel process area where the operation status of various equipment needs to be checked.

The Smart Work environment in the manufacturing area can be divided into four categories: equipment inspection, safety and disaster prevention, product transportation, and inventory management. Mobile technology such as smartphones and RFID (radio frequency identification) tags are applied. As a result, inefficient parts of work, such as time spent on the road while doing business, and data input and search, have been decreased and employees could use more time for creative areas of work, according to Posco, leading to a significant rise in employees’ job satisfaction.

Posco internally developed and set up the Mobile Device Management (MDM) system to prevent various security incidents that could arise in a mobile environment and to safely manage terminals. With this system, employees can now process their overall work with their smartphones, ranging from paper work to equipment inspection and the management and inspection of safety systems, increasing data reliability and reducing time for equipment inspection, transportation-distribution, and inventory management.
