Posco ICT has successfully secured about 180 billion won in overseas orders, including recent project orders worth 120 billion won to build a plant automation system at a CSP steel mill in Brazil. The company expects additional orders worth 80 billion won in the coming year. The integrated mill, with an annual production of 60 million tonnes, is being built in partnership with Brazil’s No. 1 iron ore supplier Vale, Dongkuk Steel, and Posco.
Posco ICT has been assigned to build the plant automation system required for the blast furnace, raw material, sintering, coke manufacturing, steel making, and continuous casting process for the mill, including EIC (Electricity, Instrumentation, Computer) control systems.
The company is participating in another integrated mill in Indonesia being jointly built by Posco and local steelmaker Krakatau Steel.
Another recent order includes a 57 billion won waste-to-energy (WTE) project in Haiti. The project involves construction of a 25-MW WTE power plant, which incinerates waste produced in urban areas adjacent to Port-au-Prince and converts it into electric power. Posco ICT expects its involvement to pave the way for second- and third-phase WTE power plant projects as well as SOC projects to rebuild social infrastructure affected by the recent earthquake.
Through integration of IT and engineering technology, Posco ICT is expanding its business platform around the world. The company notes that last year, overseas orders accounted for approximately 500 billion won, representing 30% of total orders.
The company is planning to take advantage of bases in China, India, and Vietnam to target resources development, construction IT, environment, energy, and railway construction.
