Posco Donates 100 million JPY to Earthquake, Tsunami Relief Funds

Posco announced plans to deliver earthquake and tsunami relief funds of 100 million JPY through Posco-Japan.

Employees of Posco and its subsidiaries are also voluntarily planning to hold fundraisers to help Japan. As part of this effort, the Pohang Steelers will deliver all ticket sales for the home game scheduled on March 20th and the equivalent amount collected by employees and team members through a Matching Grant method.

The company said it would also take emergency measures to provide steel pipe materials, hot-rolled and cold-rolled products requested by Japanese clients until next month. These will be used for restoration of earthquake damage.

To help minimize damages due to lack of supply by Japanese steel companies that affect Korea, Posco plans to proactively receive requests from clients and maximize supply.

Posco Chairman Joonyang Chung recently sent letters of encouragement to Nippon Steel Corp. CEO Shoji Muneoka, JFE Steel Corp. CEO Eiji Hayashida and Sumitomo Metal Industries CEO Hiroshi Tomono, expressing hope for quick damage recovery and a safe re-start of the steelworks’ operations. In his letters, Chairman Chung also expressed confidence that the Japanese steel companies would come together as one to overcome this crisis as they have done in the past.

Chairman Chung emphasized “Posco and Nippon Steel Corp., JFE Steel Corp., and Sumitomo Metal Industries and other Japanese steel companies have always helped through cooperation when hard times hit. We must show our true friendship during harder times.”
