Posco has completed construction and started production on No. 3 pickling and oiling line (POL) at Gwangyang Works. The new line is expected to produce 0.8 million tonnes/year of high-strength interior steel plate for automobiles.

The new No. 3 POL will help Posco to increase productivity and cost competitiveness in both exterior and interior steel plates for automobiles. The PO products, on which oil is spread after the oxidized layer is removed from hot coil, is mainly used for interior materials of automobiles and compressor parts because of having a smooth surface and being highly corrosion-proof.

No. 3 POL started test operation of some of its facilities of it in last December. It was constructed at about 50% of the total investment cost normally required for enlargement of a 0.8-million-tonne facility.

Posco succeeded in reducing investment cost by actively reusing the facilities abandoned during rationalization of other plants, and through open communication with the operation, maintenance and investment departments.
