POSCO Commissions New Coiler at Hot Strip Mill
04/28/2020 - POSCO’s Gwangyang works in South Korea recently wound the first coils on a newly installed coiler at its No. 4 hot strip mill.
According to SMS group, which supplied the Uni Plus coiler, the unit will enable winding of high-strength steels. During hot tests, the unit wound API X70 hot strip in thicknesses of 25.4 mm and 1,900 mm in width.
“With protective measures being taken all over the world to contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus, production of the first coil was an extraordinary challenge, which the teams of POSCO and SMS group – working in close partnership – mastered successfully,” SMS group said in a statement.
