Posco ChemTech Searches for Smarter Business Models

Posco ChemTech recently organized an idea competition, seeking ideas from employees on ways to enhance work efficiency and upgrade the quality of corporate communications within the company, using smart phones.

The contest resulted in 128 ideas that were submitted over three weeks. From the submissions, Park Chan-jin, an employee at the company’s Pohang Lime Technology Group, won first place for his idea of “quick response code-based wireless communication.”

After three stages of screening, the company also gave out three second-place awards and six third-place awards. The screening process, which considered such factors as the criteria of applicability, ripple effect, originality and security issues, was conducted by the departments in charge of mobile communication, other groups, and their leaders.

Among the award-winning ideas are a real-time checking of working standard by using smart phones and customer information management.

“All of us, not just related departments, have to work together to make such wonderful ideas to be used at work and for superior communication activities,” said Posco ChemTech CEO Lee Sang-young.

In addition to its efforts to make the ideas find use in the actual work environments, the company also plans to host ‘smart work competition’ for each work group, while working on launching a U-learning system and a mobile system to reduce times spent on paying bills.
