Posco Celebrates 33rd Year of Steel Production

June 2006 — Posco recently celebrated 33 years of producing steel in Korea, with a ceremony at the 1st Furnace of Pohang Works.
Pohang Works started building its first plant on April 1, 1970 and completed it on June 8, 1973. After a day of work, it produced the first steel at 7:30 AM on June 9, 1973.
About 100 related executives and staff members participated in the ceremony and resolved to make Pohang Works the best steelworks in the world based on advanced technologies and competitiveness.
At the ceremony, Posco announced winners of the 2nd Hot Metal Technology Award and the 14th Hot Metal Engineer of the Year. The Hot Metal Technology Award was given to Mr. Jeong Hwan Cho of the Technology Development Office who contributed to the development of technologies to lower the cost and environmental friendliness of ironmaking and completed the second repair work of the 3rd Furnace within the shortest time in history. Mr. Jae Man Lee of the Ironmaking Department was selected the 14th Hot Metal Engineer of the Year for contributing to the rationalization of the 3rd sintering work and the normalization of new production in the 3rd Furnace.
