Posco and Nippon Steel Strengthen Cultural Exchange

Posco and its strategic business partner Nippon Steel Corp. will co-host a New Year’s concert for customers, suppliers and local citizens.

The joint concert—the first cultural exchange between Korean and Japanese companies—will strengthen the strategic relationship between Posco and Nippon Steel, which commenced in August 2000. Scheduled to take place at the Posco center on January 17th, the concert will be attended by executives from both companies, including Nippon Steel’s President Mimura, Vice President Sekizawa (Director) and Vice President Masuda (Finance) as well as Posco’s CEO Ku-Taek Lee, President Seok-Man Yoon, and Vice President Dong-Hee Lee. Posco employees, customers and Seoul citizens will be also attend the concert to wish for another great year.

The concert is drawing attention as it is planned as a return to the ‘Beautiful Friends Concert’ held last year at Kioi Hall in honor of Posco’s 40th anniversary and the 150-year history of Japanese steel industry. The concert will feature Kioi Sinfonietta Tokyo, the resident chamber orchestra of Kioi Hall, which will be joined by violinist Yoo-Jin Chang in performing quintessential Baroque ensemble pieces such as The Four Seasons by Vivaldi. Founded by Nippon Steel Corp. in 1995 in commemoration of its 20th anniversary, Kioi Sinfonietta Tokyo is rated as the best chamber orchestras in Japan, while Yoo-Jin Chang is a famous young Korean artist who will lead the Korean classical musical society.

During the concert, Posco and Nippon Steel also plan to announce their cultural and social contribution activities in Korea and Japan. In June 2009, a gayageum concert by professor Byung-Ki Hwang and Japanese traditional doll play ‘Gooroomaninggyo’ will be performed at National Center for Korean Traditional Performing Arts. Korean traditional performances will be also staged at Kioi Hall in Japan.

Posco and Nippon Steel also plan to expand the cultural exchange to traditional culture in the future. In commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the companies’ strategic relationship, all members of Kioi Hall will visit Korea in 2010, and the two companies also plan to host annual concerts in Korea and Japan. They will also promote social contribution activities together.
