POSCO, Maruichi Steel Celebrate 35-Year Relationship
11/30/2015 - South Korea’s POSCO recently supplied its 8 millionth ton of steel to Japan’s Maruichi Steel Tube Ltd., POSCO has announced.
Established in 1947, Maruichi Steel makes steel tubes for the construction and automotive sectors and has been a POSCO customer for 35 years. Under their first trade agreement, Maruichi Steel purchased 3,500 tons of POSCO steel products; today, it buys more than 150,000 tons of hot rolled products from POSCO each year.
“It is a meaningful accomplishment for both companies to achieve accumulated trade of 8 million tons while overcoming difficulties together for the past 35 years. POSCO could not have grown to this extent without the help of Maruichi Steel Tube Ltd., our customer as well as our partner. I hope both companies will maintain a close partnership based on trust over the coming years,” said In-Hwan Oh, POSCO senior executive vice president and head of its steel business division.
During the a ceremony to mark the occasion, executives from both companies pledged to strengthen their cooperative relationship and work together on meeting increasing demands for steel products for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
"With POSCO's support to constantly supply high-quality steel products, we also grew as a competitive steel tube company, securing manufacturing and sales bases throughout Japan. We look forward to POSCO's continued support in the future," said Maruichi Steel chairman Hiroyuki Suzuki.
