Posco, Gorenje Sign Long-Term Supply Agreement

Posco recently signed a long-term supply agreement with home appliance maker Gorenje in Velenje, Slovenia. The agreement will allow Posco to set up a bridgehead in Europe for stable home appliance steel sales.

Headquartered in Slovenia, Gorenje makes home appliances such as refrigerators and washing machines and is one of the top five companies in the European home appliance market together with BSH and Electrolux.

Posco first started trades with Gorenje in 2008 on an irregular basis. The new long-term contract will allow the stable sales of home appliance steel such as electro-galvanized steel (EGI) and cold-rolled carbon steel sheet in Europe. The agreement also allows Posco to lay the foundation to expand its market share not only with European home appliance makers but also Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics, Korea’s two home appliance makers that have advanced into the East European market.

Posco plans to use its transporter, Posco-ESDC, located in Koper port, Slovenia, to improve its logistics service—i.e., storage and shipping.
