POS-GSFC Joins oil Storage Tank Project in Abu Dhabi

Posco P&S subsidiary POS-GSFC, UAE, recently joined an oil storage tank construction project underway in Abu Dhabi under the IRP-2 (Inter Refinery Pipelines-Phase2 PKG2) Project, part of an effort to construct a 910-kilometer oil pipeline.

POS-GSFC will manufacture and supply steel plates for storage tanks to be installed in key locations for pipeline sections from Ruwais to various locations in the UAE. The IRP-2 project, which was ordered by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company subsidiary Takreer and includes EPC contractor GS Construction, is an extension of the IRP-1 project completed in 2007.

Located 250 km south of Abu Dhabi, Ruwais is the home of many new oil refinery, oil and processing facilities.

POS-GSFC will manufacture and supply some 8,000 tonnes of steel plates to be used for 26 oil storage tanks constructed in Ruwais, Musapa, Habsan and Al-ain, with the products to be delivered via Posco P&S. POS-GSFC is planning to complete delivery by the first half of next year, with storage tanks to be manufactured by joint partner LIMA Heavy Industries.

Having launched operations in December 2010 with an annual production capacity of 100,000 tonnes, POS-GSFC has a specialty in the manufacture of storage tanks and is equipped with specialty manufacturing facilities such as Shot Blast, Painting Line and other surface processing equipment, CNC cutter and vending machines. POS-GSFC is participating in several large-scale projects in the Middle East, including the umgapa desalination storage tank project and the RRE project in the UAE.

The IRP-2 (Inter Refinery Pipelines-Phase2 PKG2) Project is scheduled for completion by 2014.
