According to SMS group, the mill, which will be installed at a greenfield plant in Paris, Texas, will have the capacity to produce pipe in diameters ranging from 610 mm to 3,658 mm and in lengths of more than 16 meters.

SMS group will supply a coil preparation stand and a spiral pipe machine equipped with its PERFECT arc submerged-arc welding technology. SMS group also will be responsible for the engineering and oversee installation and commissioning.

“The mill will operate in the so-called one-step (“on-line”) process with submerged-arc welding from the inside and outside taking place directly after spiral pipe forming,” the company said.

The first pipes are to roll off the line in 2020. The company is part of Alabama-based American Cast Iron Pipe Co.
