Paul Wurth Wins Order for Blast Furnace Charging System
03/09/2016 - South Korea’s POSCO has ordered a new charging system for the No. 3 blast furnace at its Pohang works, according to the vendor on the project.
The vendor, SMS group subsidiary Paul Wurth, said the project coincides with a relining of the furnace, which has been scheduled for February 2017.
Under the project, Paul Wurth will install a Parallel Hopper top, replacing the Central Feed Bell Less Top system that had been in operation since 1989. The central feed system had been supplied by Paul Wurth licensee IHI.
Paul Wurth said each of the new hoppers will have a volume of 108 cubic meters, accommodating the blast furnace’s enlargement. Once the project is completed, the furnace will be capable of making 14,000 tons of hot metal per day, Paul Wurth said.
The firm will provide the engineering, all of the key mechanical equipment and some ancillary hardware. It also will be responsible for installation and commissioning.
