Paul Wurth to Supply Blast Furnace, Coke Oven Plant and Sinter Plant to Indonesian Company

The Indonesian steelmaker PT Gunung Raja Paksi (Gunung Steel Group) is currently expanding its production capacity to become one of the most comprehensive integrated steel mills in the region. Paul Wurth has been awarded contracts to supply the company with a blast furnace, coke making plant and sinter plant.
Paul Wurth was awarded on 20 April 2012 an order for the basic engineering and supply of key equipment of Gunung’s new blast furnace at the site of Cibitung in Cikarang Barat, West Java Province, Indonesia.
The new blast furnace No. 1 will have a working volume of 2,251 m3 and is designed for an annual hot metal capacity of up to 2 million tonnes.
The scope of Paul Wurth includes the complete basic engineering and partial detail engineering, as well as the supply of key components for the BF top charging, BF proper, hot blast stoves, wet gas cleaning plant and INBA® slag granulation system. Furthermore, the furnace will be equipped with the state-of-the-art BFXpert™ level 2 blast furnace control system.
Featuring proven solutions as well as state-of-the-art Paul Wurth technology, the start-up of the new hot metal production unit is scheduled for April 2015.
In October 2012, Paul Wurth was awarded an order for the over-all engineering and supply of key items of a new sinterplant.
Paul Wurth’s contractual scope of supply comprises all key components including the mixing and nodulizing equipment, the sinter strand, key elements of the cooler as well as the complete control and automation systems of all plant units. The sinterplant is designed for a nominal capacity of 2,400,000 tons per year of sinter and will generate the materials to be fed into Gunung’s future blast furnace N°1.
Commissioning of the plants shall be completed in 2015. The project will be executed in close cooperation with PT Gunung Group.
In November 2012 the company contracted Paul Wurth to also supply a new coke making plant of stamp charging type, including the by-products plant and coke oven machines.
Paul Wurth’s contractual scope of supply comprises engineering and key items for a new coke oven battery consisting of 66 ovens with an oven height of 5.5 m and a coke production of 755,000 tonnes per year. It includes moreover the coal tower, the coke quenching tower, the coke wharf, the complete by-products plant to treat 44 000 Nm3/h of COG as well as the SOPRECO® system. Paul Wurth will also supply key items of the coke oven machines, comprising two sets of stamping/charging/pushing machines, one coke transfer car and one charging gas transfer system.

The first coke is expected to be pushed in December 2015.
