Paul Wurth to Purchase Schalke Coke Oven Machine Technology
07/16/2014 - On 2 July 2014, Paul Wurth Italia S.p.A. and the German company Schalker Eisenhütte Maschinenfabrik GmbH signed an Asset Purchase Agreement regarding the transfer of Schalke’s coke oven machine segment to the Paul Wurth Group.
Thanks to this acquisition, Paul Wurth takes over the patents, references, drawings, licenses, brand name and know-how of the Bochum-based company, which has established itself as a worldwide market leader for coke oven machines relying on more than 130 years of experience.
With this transaction, Paul Wurth will expand its expertise in coke making technology. Adding coke oven machinery to its product portfolio will strengthen Paul Wurth’s position as a global player in the design and construction of complete coke oven plants, coke oven batteries, coal processing plants, coke oven gas treatment, by-products & auxiliary plants as well as coke dry quenching facilities.
The newly acquired Schalke coke oven machine technology includes charging cars, pusher machines, coke transfer cars, quenching cars, crane systems, maintenance & service cars as well as automation and emission control systems. Thanks to this state-of-the-art technology, the most modern and largest coke oven batteries in the world can be equipped with man-less operated coke oven machines which meet the highest standards in terms of coke productivity, emission control, user friendliness and plant safety. Today, more than 200 Schalke branded reference machines are worldwide in operation.
Based in Bochum, Germany, Schalke is a subsidiary company to the globally operating Eickhoff Group and considered as center of excellence for welding technology. Besides the coke oven machine business, Schalke has gained some decades of experience in the design and manufacture of underground mining locomotives and tailor-made rail vehicles.
