Paul Wurth to Participate in Blast Furnace Overhaul
04/11/2019 - Russia’s PAO MMK has contracted blast furnace specialist Paul Wurth for a rebuild of an 87-year-old blast furnace at its Magnitogorsk works.
In a statement, MMK said Paul Wurth will supply horizontal copper cooling plates, graphite refractory bricks and ramming mass. It also will provide a hydraulic power unit with heat exchangers and an associated closed-loop water cooling system.
Additionally, Paul Wurth will provide detail engineering for the high-heat loaded bosh and belly areas, cooling elements, and the primary cooling system.
The No. 2 Komsomolka furnace has been overhauled several times over the course of its life, but through this project, MMK will rebuild the furnace and replacing all of the old components. Paul Wurth will provide on-site supervision during pre-shutdown and shutdown stages of the project.
Work is to begin next year.
