Paul Wurth Signed to Coke Plant Build

According to Paul Wurth, the project at the steelmaker’s Kaohsiung mill calls for two top-charged batteries, two coke oven machines and the upstream end of a gas treatment plant. Paul Wurth said the jumbo-sized batteries, designated as the No. 9 and 10 units, will consist of 74 ovens each. The oven chambers will be 7.6 m high, 20 m long and 0.55 m wide.

The batteries are designed to produce nearly 2.1 million metric tons of coke annually.

“With a special focus on environmental protection and automation, Paul Wurth will equip the new batteries with in-house developed products such as the SOPRECO® system (Single Oven PREssure Control); a highly automated coke charging system; and the CokeXpert™ level 2 automation system,” the company said.

The No. 9 battery is to start in 2024, followed by the No. 10 battery in 2025.
