Paul Wurth Performs 24-Hour Preventative Maintenance for ThyssenKrupp CSA
08/22/2013 - On 8 July 2013, the service experts of Paul Wurth do Brasil performed a 24-hour preventive maintenance program at blast furnaces No. 1 and 2 and at the INBA® slag granulation facilities of ThyssenKrupp CSA’s integrated steel plant at Sepetiba Bay in Brazil. It was the first time ever that Paul Wurth was in charge of such a servicing package.
Since the start-up of the plant in 2010, Paul Wurth service specialists have regularly been present on site in order to support the customer in different maintenance and refurbishment activities of Paul Wurth proprietary equipment. This customer proximity led Paul Wurth to be contracted with an on-site preventive maintenance mission. During the preparation phase, the detailed scope of activities was planned in close cooperation with ThyssenKrupp CSA, the critical elements identified and the required manpower and supervisory team evaluated, so that all preventive maintenance activities could be performed during a 24-hours shutdown. Eight engineers from Paul Wurth do Brasil, who had contracted and supervised 65 local workers, took care of the successful execution of these shutdown services performed under Paul Wurth’s responsibility and according to the strictest safety standards.
These included the inspection of the Bell Less Top® gearbox and chutes, the replacement of BLT® valve seals, bleeder seats and seals, downlegs, a clay gun hydraulic cylinder, various INBA® valves and screens, various non-structural metallic welding activities as well as the opening of the hopper manholes for cleaning and inspection.
All these interventions were carried out in due time to the full satisfaction of the customer and are considered as a milestone reference in Paul Wurth’s servicing activities.
