Paolo Rocca Announces US$225 Million in Investments for Ternium Plant in Guerrero, Mexico
09/02/2013 - Paolo Rocca has announced investments of US$225 million in safety and environmental areas for its Ternium plant in Guerrero, Mexico.
The plan includes investments in industrial safety, environmental measures, maintenance and remodeling of the plant— one of the most important company.
The Guerrero Plant, built in the 1940s with cutting edge technology for its time, is one of Ternium’s most important plants, employing 3,900 people out of a total of 9,200 all across Mexico. It has been certified as a Clean Industry since 2000.
The investments identified in the various sectors are intended to implement improvements in safety and environmental measures to bring the plant to some of the highest standards in the world.
The industrial security measures envisioned in the plan include an extension of the monitoring systems, installation of additional detectors within industrial buildings, a reinforcement in ventilation systems, new evacuation routes and signals. There will also be adjustments in the internal organization of the plant, in the slag and scrap yards and mineral and transfer yards.
As for renewal and environmental adaptation, investments will be aimed at increasing emissions control and the steel construction of a new acid regeneration plant.
At the same time, Ternium has launched a training plan for its employees with the aim of strengthening training in risk analysis, risk review processes, complete emergency and rescue situations and traffic circuits and internal mobility.
Paolo Rocca, chairman of the Techint Organization, said: "The objective of these investments is to to lift the Guerrero Plant to safety and environmental standards on an international level to ensure a sustainable, long-term operation, integrating it with the new Pesqueria Industrial Center."
