Pakistani Rebar Manufacturer Triples Production Capacity With New Mill
09/29/2015 - Primetals Technologies has won an order to design and outfit a bar mill for Pakistan’s Amreli Steels Ltd., the company has announced.
With an annual capacity of 400,000 metric tons, the bar mill will triple the Karachi-based rebar producer’s overall capacity – it currently can make 180,000 metric tons per year, Primetals said in the announcement.
Primetals said the project comes at a time of record steel demand in Pakistan. The country’s iron and steel sector grew by 36 percent in 2014, and a large number of residential and nonresidential construction projects are in the planning stages now, according to the company.
The mill will produce rebar in diameters of between 8 and 40 mm and round bars in diameters between 16 and 60 mm. It is to be put into service in early 2017.
Primetals is outfitting the production line from the reheat furnace discharge system. The order includes a roughing mill; an intermediate mill; a finishing mill; shears; a heat treatment Pomini quenching system; and bundling equipment.
Primetals also will supply the guides; lubrication and hydraulic systems; basic automation; motors and drives; and an uninterruptible power supply, it said.
