Oxy-Arc International Inc. and its partner, Torch Cutting Technologies, S.L. (TCT), recently completed the commissioning of four TCT Billet Caster Cutting Machines (BCCM) along with an Oxy-Arc gas-saving manifold system, machine torches, and tips at Simec International 6, S.A. de C.V.’s facility in Mexicali, BCN, Mexico. The TCT torch carriages employ a rugged 4wd drive, a pneumatic clamping system, and a highly adjustable pendulum-style torch movement that allows optimal torch cutting performance. The TCT BCCMs were constructed to retrofit directly into Simec’s existing carriage structure without any major modifications necessary. The time frame allocated by the customer was limited to 9 days of caster stoppage. During this short time period the news machines were exchanged with the old, retrofitting of the supporting structure and machine tracks was accomplished, as well as the necessary electrical and software adaptations. Lastly, operation and maintenance training of Simec personnel was successfully performed. During the same trip to Mexico, Oxy-Arc International Inc. technicians oversaw the installation of a second 4 torch gas-saving manifold system at Simec’s other facility in Guadalajara, JAL, Mexico. Operators were immediately able to see the benefits of the installation with reduced gas consumption while the caster torches were in pilot-flame mode.
