Outotec to Supply Iron Ore Sinter Plant for SAIL

The Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) has awarded a contract to Outotec for the design and delivery of an iron ore sinter plant for SAIL's Bhilai Steel Plant in Chhattisgarh.

The new sinter plant is part of SAIL's program to expand the Bhilai Steel Plant’s annual capacity to seven million tonnes of crude steel.

Outotec will implement the turnkey plant project in consortium with Larsen & Toubro Ltd.

Outotec's scope will cover engineering, supply of proprietary and special equipment, and technical services for a sinter plant with an annual capacity of 3.7 million tonnes. Larsen & Toubro will cover supply of local components as well as site construction works.

"With the new contract for a large sintering plant at Bhilai, which follows several earlier contracts for medium- to large-sized sinter plants in India, Outotec confirms its position as the partner of choice for agglomeration projects of the Indian public and private steel industry," said Pertti Korhonen, President and CEO of Outotec.

The new sinter plant is expected to become operational in 2012. While Outotec has not disclosed the contract value, technology solutions with corresponding scope typically range from EUR 20 to 25 million.

Outotec is a leading global provider of process solutions, technologies and services for the mining and metallurgical industries. The company works in close partnership with its customers to provide plants, equipment and services based mainly on proprietary technologies.
