Outotec to Supply Iron Ore Pelletizing Plant to Samarco

Outotec has agreed with Samarco Mineração S.A. on a turnkey delivery of the world's largest iron ore pelletizing plant in Brazil. The new plant will be installed at Samarco's iron ore port in Ponta de Ubú, Espírito Santo. Once operational at the end of 2013, the plant will treat 9.25 million tonnes of iron ore per year on an 816-m² traveling grate indurating machine.

Outotec's scope covers the entire process technology, conceptual and detailed engineering, project management, supply, construction, and startup of the pelletizing plant.

The contract value is approximately EUR 200 million, which will be booked in Outotec's second quarter order intake. The contract also includes EUR 100 million local purchases performed on behalf of the customer. Some 90% of the services and supplies for the project will be delivered from Brazil.

"Our technology leadership in pelletizing is demonstrated by this 13th world-class pelletizing plant designed and delivered by Outotec in Brazil. Samarco's new mega-size plant will comply with the latest environmental regulations and be a benchmark for future plants in sustainability, efficiency, and capacity," said Outotec CEO Pertti Korhonen.
