Outotec to Supply Filtration Technology for Serra Azul Facility Expansion

Outotec and Brazilian mining company MMX Mineração e Metálicos S.A. have signed a contract to deliver filter technology for the expansion of the Serra Azul iron ore processing facility in Minas Gerais, Brazil.

Although the parties did not disclose the contract value, it is reported that deliveries of this scope are typically valued in the range of some tens of millions of Euros.

Outotec's scope of delivery comprises 17 Outotec Larox® CC 144 capillary action disc filters for filtering pelletizing feed slurries in iron ore processing. These advanced filters feature micro-porous ceramic discs that replace conventional filter cloth. Because liquid is drawn through the pores by capillary action, only a small vacuum pump is required, resulting in significantly reduced energy consumption.

"This is our fourth recent large scale filter order,” said Pertti Korhonen, CEO of Outotec. “Outotec Larox CC 144 filters are currently the largest in use in the industry and have proven their unique advantages also in iron ore beneficiation. They significantly improve the process and environmental performance of the plant.”

Outotec plans to manufacture the filters at its facilities in Finland and deliver them in two phases.
