Outotec and WWF in Partnership to Promote Green Economy in Finland
05/16/2014 - Outotec and WWF Finland have agreed on a partnership, which focuses on promoting green economy and sustainable use of natural resources.
This cooperation concerns especially Finland, but Outotec has a goal to address the same issues globally and thanks to technology innovations sustainability has been at the core of Outotec's business for decades.
"Outotec wants to listen carefully to its stakeholders. We have stated that the planet Earth is one of our stakeholders. WWF is an organization, which can exceptionally well represent the voice of the Earth, with all the work and research it is doing concerning the planetary boundaries. The collaboration gives us the possibility to have a dialogue also with this stakeholder", states Minna Aila, senior vice president — marketing, communications & corporate responsibility.
As a part of the partnership Outotec and WWF will together organize a high level national seminar on green economy and national implications of WWF's Living Planet Report 2014 on 25 November 2014 in Helsinki. The seminar shall be the kick-off for a series of round-table discussions of a working group leading to enhanced understanding and more concrete proposals for implementation of green economy in Finland. WWF will compile a study on the best green economy practices from Finland and abroad to serve as a basis for the round-table discussions.
"One of our strategic goals is to raise awareness among the Finnish political decision makers and corporate executives of green economy, its boundaries and possibilities to introduce concrete measures for promoting it in Finland. It is delightful that Outotec cooperates with us in achieving this goal. Companies which take this issue seriously will gain competitive advantage as eventually entire business field needs to shift away from "business as usual" type of action, the Earth simply cannot handle it", says Liisa Rohweder, CEO at WWF Finland.
The partnership was initially made for three years and the forms of future collaboration will be developed based on the experiences gained throughout the program.
