Outokumpu to Restructure for More Efficient Production of Special Stainless
01/18/2011 - Outokumpu’s Specialty Stainless operations will have a new organization, effective March 1, with the new business units Special Coil and Special Plate replacing the former units Special Coil & Plate and Thin Strip.
Outokumpu announced that its Specialty Stainless operations will have a new organization, effective March 1, 2011. As part of the reorganization, the new business units Special Coil and Special Plate will replace the former units Special Coil & Plate and Thin Strip.
“With this change we develop a flatter and more efficient organization with increased operational focus,” said Bo Annvik, Head of Specialty Stainless. “We aim at creating stable profitability through increased sales of special products and more efficient production.
“In the medium and long-term, special stainless products are strategically well positioned, supported by good demand prospects for tailored products,” added Annvik. “In addition, there is great potential to increase our exports to fast-growing markets outside Europe.”
The heads of the new business units will be:
· Jacob Sandberg – Head of Special Coil, comprising the Swedish units Avesta Works, Klippcenter in Avesta and the former Thin Strip Nyby in Eskilstuna. Jacob Sandberg will also be the new site manager at Avesta Works.
· Leif Rosén – Head of Special Plate, comprising the quarto plate units in Degerfors, Sweden, and New Castle, USA, the unit in Willich, Germany, as well as Pressplate and Prefab in Avesta and Plate Service Centre Nordic in Degerfors.
The Kloster plant in Sweden will be included in the Group's General Stainless operations.
Marie Louise Falkland, currently Site Manager at Avesta Works, will head the Group's research center in Avesta.
Outokumpu’s Specialty Stainless operations include the plants producing special stainless steel and products.
