Outokumpu Recognized for Corporate Responsibility

Outokumpu's corporate responsibility reporting for 2009 was ranked third in the Finnish corporate responsibility reporting review. The reports of 42 Finland-based organizations were analyzed.

For the 2007 and 2008 reports, the company's reporting was ranked first. This year, the jury placed special emphasis on companies' efforts in the field of energy and material efficiency as well as diversity at work, according to Outokumpu. The 2009 report was published online with integrated annual and corporate responsibility reports. According to the jury, Outokumpu reports well on energy and material efficiency with set targets and results.

"For the first time we only published an online corporate responsibility report and it was within our annual report,” said Liisa Jalanko, Vice President for Corporate Responsibility in Outokumpu Oyj. “I believe that corporate responsibility reporting contributes to improving our responsibility in everyday business as well as transparency. I hope that by reading the reports our stakeholders get a better understanding of our operations and the challenges in stainless steel business.”

This was the 15th time the Finnish corporate responsibility reporting was reviewed. The review was organized by the Confederation of Finnish Industries EK, Finnish Business & Society, Ministry of Employment and the Economy, Ministry of the Environment, Association of Environmental Management, and Finnish Institute of Authorized Public Accountants. The assessment criterion was based on the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) G3 guidelines.
