Outokumpu Maintains Spot on Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes

Outokumpu maintains its membership in the Dow Jones World and Dow Jones STOXX Sustainability indexes. This year the company also received the highest possible score in two sustainability criteria: environmental reporting as well as occupational health and safety.

SAM, the investment company focused on sustainability investing, together with Dow Jones Indexes and STOXX Ltd., have informed the results of the 2009 annual review for the two sustainability indexes.

The DJSI include sustainability leaders from each industry on a global and regional level, respectively. The annual review of the DJSI family is based on a thorough analysis of corporate economic, environmental, and social performance, assessing issues such as corporate governance, risk management, branding, climate change mitigation, supply chain standards, and labor practices. It accounts for general as well as industry-specific sustainability criteria.

More than 150 companies appear in the pan-European Dow Jones STOXX Sustainability index, while 300 plus companies appear in the Dow Jones World index.

"Even in these challenging times we are committed to act responsibly, and aim to continuously improve our performance. I'm pleased to receive again recognition for our efforts in this area. Membership in Dow Jones Sustainability indexes is important," said Outokumpu's CEO Juha Rantanen.
