Outokumpu Honored for Environmental Sustainability by DJ Sustainability Indexes
11/22/2011 - Outokumpu has maintained its membership for the fifth consecutive year in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes (DJSI) - DJSI World and DJSI Europe.
Outokumpu has maintained its membership for the fifth consecutive year in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes (DJSI) - DJSI World and DJSI Europe. In the 2011 review, Outokumpu was named as one of the five best steel companies worldwide included in the DJSI World index.
The DJSI indexes rank leading companies in the area of sustainable development using an annual review based on a thorough analysis of corporate economic, environmental and social performance. The analysis is carried out each year by SAM Research AG, an independent assessment party. DJSI World and DJSI Europe Indexes include 342 and 172 companies, respectively.
In recognition for its environmental work, Outokumpu was ranked #1 in the whole steel industry on the environmental dimension for the second successive year. The company also received positive feedback in the occupational health and safety category, where the company earned the highest scores in the industry.

Outokumpu's commitment to sustainable development has been recognized by several independent sustainability ratings and corporate responsibility institutions including SAM, Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index, ETHIbel, SRI, OMX Sustainability Index and Kempen SRI. Outokumpu was also granted the first International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF) Sustainability award in May 2011.
