Outokumpu, Ruukki Affected by Stevedores Strike in Finland

Outokumpu reports that the strike of the Finnish stevedores (AKT) has started to impact its operations in Röyttä harbor in Tornio. All operations in the harbor have currently stopped.
Immediately after the strike began on March 4, Outokumpu secured operation of the private part of the harbor with the help of subcontractors, but the company says it is currently not able to carry out these arrangements.
This consequently impacts Outokumpu's deliveries of stainless steel and the supply of raw materials. The company estimates that within a week, production of stainless steel and ferrochrome will stop in Tornio. If production totally ceases, the estimated financial impact on Outokumpu will be roughly €1 million per day.
At Ruukki, the AKT strike will initially affect the transportation of steel products for export, which will be evident in longer delivery times.
The company notes that at plants manufacturing components and systems for the engineering industry, the strike may cause interruptions to production due to disruptions in the delivery of imported components and materials.
The strike may also delay deliveries of finished products to customers, says Ruukki.
