Orissa Metaliks Prepares for November Start-Up of New Billet Caster
10/18/2016 - Indian steelmaker Orissa Metaliks Private Ltd. is preparing to start up a new three-strand billet caster next month, according to the equipment vendor on the project.
The supplier, Primetals Technologies Group’s Concast (India) Ltd., said the caster has a capacity of 384,000 metric tons annually and has been designed for direct hot rolling of carbon steel billets to into rebar, eliminating the need for reheating.
The caster has a machine radius of 6 meters, a metallurgical length of 11 meters and a curved tube mold. The maximum casting speed is 4.1 meters per minute.
Concast (India) was responsible for designing, engineering and manufacturing the ladle support; tundish and tundish support; mold and oscillator; straightener segments; secondary cooling system; dummy bar system; and the pusher and cooling bed.
It also supplied a basic automation package and HMI system, and it is overseeing installation and commissioning. The caster was installed at Orissa Metaliks’ facility in Kharagpur, West Bengal.
