OMK Plans DRI Plant, Meltshop
09/02/2020 - Russian steelmaker OMK is investing the equivalent of US$2 billion in a new direct reduction plant and associated electric arc furnace-based meltshop, reports commodities news and pricing service S&P Global Platts.
According to Platts, the project includes a 2.5-million-metric-ton direct reduction plant and an electric arc furnace with up to 1.8 million metric tons of annual capacity.
The meltshop will produce heavy slab, round wheel blooms and round pipe billet, Platts said.
Danieli has been chosen to supply the meltshop and the direct reduced iron (DRI) unit. In a statement, Danieli said the facility will utilize its Energiron DRI technology and will be the largest single-module direct reduction plant in Russia.
Danieli will provide the equipment and engineering and supervise installation and commissioning. The Energiron technology was jointly developed by Danieli and Tenova.
