OJSC ArcelorMittal Kryviy Rih Appoints Chief H&S and Environment Officer
02/07/2011 - OJSC ArcelorMittal Kryviy Rih announced the appointment of Alexander Kuznetsov to the position of Chief H&S and Environment Officer.
OJSC “ArcelorMittal Kryviy Rih announced the appointment of Alexander Kuznetsovto the position of Chief H&S and Environment Officer.
Kuznetsov, an experienced specialist on Health and Safety, occupational and fire safety, environment and civil protection, previously held the position of Deputy CEO for occupational safety of OJSC Mondi Syktyvkar, a leading manufacturer of the Russian pulp and paper industry. In this position, he was in charge of management and planning of the company’s work, implementation of corporate requirements and standards with regards to Safety and Occupational Health, and development of a proactive approach to work safety.
Holding the leading positions for occupational safety at OJSC Mondi Syktyvkar for 8 years, Kuznetsov’s responsibilities included reduction of work-related injuries from 159 to 13, reduction of sickness from 6 to 2.6, and reduction of the number of fires from 14 to 0. Kuznetsov also participated in the implementation of work safety standards ISO9001, ISO14001 and managed implementation of OHSAS18001, and also organized the joint preventive work on reduction of injuries at contracting agencies.
“I know Alexander Kuznetsov as a professional, I personally saw the results of his work at OJSC Mondi Syktyvkar,” said Rinat Starkov, CEO, OJSC ArcelorMittal Kryviy Rih. “As H&S issues are the priority ones at OJSC ArcelorMittal Kryviy Rih and we were set a task by ArcelorMittal to achieve zero rate of fatalities at the workplace, the experience of Alexander Kuznetsov is very valuable for us.
“We will have to do a lot to reorganize production processes and to implement control and self-control mechanisms which would allow minimizing the risks of injury,” added Starkov. “In this sense, good practices, gained by Alexander Kuznetsov while working at Mondi Syktyvkar, will be very helpful to us".
In his new position, Kuznetsov will be in charge of not only H&S issues, but also ecology and environment protection issues at OJSC ArcelorMittal Kryviy Rih.
Kuznetsov graduated from Leningrad Forest and Technical Kirov Academy with a specialty of engineer-mechanic for timber machines and equipment. In 2005 he had training on implementation of Health and Safety Innovations, Risk Assessment at Mondi Europe Academy (Vienne, Austria), BKM Guidance, Israel (“Proactive Approach to Safety Issues”).
