Ohio HBI Plant to Utilize AUMUND Cooling Technology
04/09/2018 - Bulk material conveying specialist AUMUND Fördertechnik GmbH has signed a contract to supply the evaporation cooling system on iron ore miner Cleveland-Cliffs Inc.’s hot briquetted iron plant in Ohio, the company said Monday.
In a statement, AUMUND said its patented system is designed to cool material from 750 degrees to 90 degrees Celsius through a process that protects the integrity of the product. The system consists of two FPB-K pan conveyors on a center distance of 72 m.
AUMUND said the technology was first deployed on a Venezuelan plant in 2006 and later used in projects in Russia and the United States.
“Today, after constant optimization of details, the technology has reached such a state of maturity that both operators and general contractors increasingly favor the AUMUND solution over traditional methods,” said Matthias Moritz, AUMUND’s sales director for metallurgy.
The Cliff’s plant will utilize MIDREX direct reduction technology and is being designed to produce 1.6 million tons annually. Start-up is scheduled for 2020.
