OEMK’s Health & Safety Management System Complies with International Standards
04/18/2014 - OEMK (part of Metalloinvest) has confirmed the compliance of its occupational health and safety management system with the requirements of OHSAS 18001:2007.
The second supervisory audit of the unit’s occupational health and safety management system for compliance with the OHSAS 18001:2007 international standard on requirements for professional health and safety management systems took place between 25 and 28 March and was conducted by the leading auditors from Bureau Veritas’ accreditation firm.
The experts noted the strengths of OEMK’s system. In particular, the leadership of the management and involvement of employees in implementing an occupational health and safety policy and achieving related targets; the professionalism and expertise of the unit’s specialists; attention to employees’ professional health; creation of conditions to ensure operational safety; and measures taken to reduce occupational health and safety risks.
OEMK’s managing director Nikolay Shlyakhov commented: “Metalloinvest devotes considerable attention to safety and safeguarding the health of its employees. OEMK spends hundreds of millions of rubles each year on ensuring occupational health and safety. Steelworkers have been provided with specialist uniforms, footwear and other protective equipment, and occupational health examinations and vaccinations take place on a regular basis.”
