OEMK Confirms Compliance of Environmental Management System with International Standards
07/19/2013 - Russia's Oskol Electrometallurgical Plant (OEMK) confirmed compliance of its environmental management system with the ISO 14001:2004 standard following the annual compliance audit.
The compliance audit of the environmental management system is undertaken to determine the extent of its adherence, implementation and performance in relation to the requirements of the ISO 14001:2004 international standard. The management of the environmental protection department, as well as principal and auxiliary workshops and divisions of OEMK, participated in the audit.
Nikolay Shlyakhov, managing director of OEMK, commented: “Metalloinvest pays close attention to the protection of nature. The environmental component is an integral part of the planning process for production and investment programs. Among the most significant measures to reduce the negative environmental impact at OEMK are the modernization of the gas purification unit at the electric arc furnace workshop and the construction of the sewage water cleaning system at the central water treatment facility of the water supply workshop. The new gas purification system at the third and fourth electric furnaces at EAF has already become operational. The launch of the sewage water cleaning system is planned for early August.”
