Obstacles Remain as China Works on Steel Capacity Reductions, Industry Ministry Official Says
09/26/2019 - Not for a lack of trying, China remains challenged to contain illegal steel capacity, reports the Reuters news service.
Reuters, citing an official from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said the country continues to see unapproved facilities open and obsolete facilities re-open even after being closed.
Still, the country shuttered more than 150 million metric tons of iron and steel capacity between 2016 and 2018, according to Xinhua, China’s official news agency.
