Nucor Unveils Plans to Add Meltshop to Bar Mill
09/21/2021 - Nucor Corp. announced today that it will add a US$100 million meltshop at one of its bar mills in the Western U.S.
The new meltshop will have the capacity to produce 600,000 tons per year, according to a press release from Nucor.
The company’s bar production capacity is approximately 9.5 million tons, with 15 bar mills across the U.S.
"The new meltshop will help us maintain our market leading position in steel bar production and help us meet anticipated growth for bar products from our customers in the Western United States," said Dan Needham, executive vice president of bar and rebar fabrication products for Nucor Corp.
The meltshop is anticipated to create approximately 140 new full-time jobs with start-up expected in 2024.
