Nucor Steel Contracts CORE for EAF Revamp
08/01/2007 - Nucor Steel recently contracted Core Furnace Systems to convert an existing conventional-tapping EAF into a bottom-tapping EAF at its Jackson, Miss., facility.
Nucor Steel recently contracted Core Furnace Systems to convert an existing conventional-tapping EAF into a bottom-tapping EAF at its Jackson, Miss., facility.
The revamp project comprises a new lower shell, a “king-pin” type superstructure, tilting and retractable maintenance platforms, electrode columns, and roof-lift mechanism. CORE will also supply various other components related to conversion of the existing EAF to the bottom-tapping configuration.
The EAF upgrade will help to improve the efficiency and reliability of Nucor Jackson’s scrap melting process.
Installation will take place in 2008.
