Quad Infotech has been awarded an order by Nucor Steel Texas to provide a comprehensive manufacturing execution system (MES) in its steel plant in Jewett, Texas.
The Jewett plant consists of one melt shop and two rolling mills. It produces carbon steel angles, channels, flats, rebars, rounds, special sections, squares and U.M. plates. QMOS will help improve the process visibility and coordination between the operations of the melt shop and the rolling mills.
Through its tightly integrated spec management functions, QMOS provides continuous and real-time quality control throughout the entire production process. Furthermore, QMOS will manage planning and detailed scheduling of the production lines allowing for better visibility and coordination between all units.
Advanced billet inventory management tools in QMOS will provide Nucor Texas the ability to optimize management of billets in the billet yards of its two rolling mills. At the same time audit trail of all billet transactions is kept for detailed and accurate month end accounting reports.
QMOS' complete suite of shop functions such as the roll shop manager, guide shop manager, stand building manager and ladle and mold manager, will allow Nucor Texas complete control over planning and scheduling of all its shops as well as improved coordination of these shops with the production units.
QMOS will fully interface with Nucor's Ross ERP system.
